School Board Transportation Director Damon Evans says he's excited for the challenge, adding that transporting thousands of students will always be a bumpy road.
Evans, who is in his first year on the job, says that the rerouting of students was something the school board was already prepared for.
Currently, there are an estimated 30,000 students under the parish's care.
Evans says with close to 300 buses and five back up bus drivers ready to go, the school is taking a proactive, rather than a reactive approach, to transportation.
"We are equipped to the job, we did it last year, we hardly had any issues. There were a few issues, there always are. But we don't plan on having any this year", says Evans.
He is asking for patience once the buses get rolling, some routes may be different from last year.
Coupled with the traffic in Lafayette, it might take time, but Evans says he'll ensure students reach their destination safe and sound.
