Officials in Welsh have agreed to lift the town's pit bull ban and replace it with a revised ordinance that puts more emphasis on a dog's actions.
Alderman Bob Owens said the change will put more responsibility on the actions of the dog and not the specific breed if they bite or attack someone.
Under the measure, it will be unlawful to own a dog deemed dangerous or vicious.
Town superintendent Rick Matte says any dog deemed vicious will not be returned to its owner to protect people and other animals.
The law also says dangerous dogs must be kept quarantined for 10 days to ensure they do not have rabies.
Mattie says the town has not had a reported dog bite in several years.
