Troopers assigned to the Louisiana State Police Criminal Patrols Unit in Troop I with the assistance of the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office made a traffic stop on I-10 which resulted in the arrest of a Texas man and the seizure of nearly 50 pounds of marijuana.
The incident occurred this morning shortly after 2:45 am. Troopers stopped a 2013 Nissan Maxima for a traffic violation on I-10 eastbound east of the Henderson/Cecilia exit near milepost 117. During the stop, Troopers became suspicious and requested permission to search the vehicle. Consent was refused, and St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office K-9 "Shockey" alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed approximately forty six pounds of marijuana concealed in a duffel bag in the trunk of the Maxima. Troopers placed the driver, 35 year old Myvar Abdullah of Manvel, TX, under arrest. Abdullah was booked into the St. Martin Parish jail for possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
