LCG councilman files resolution to clean house on LPTFA board

Lafayette Parish Councilman Kenneth Boudreaux has filed a resolution on this Tuesday's agenda to remove the current members of the Lafayette Public Trust Finance Authority board because of issues raised in the last LPTFA audit.

According to his resolution, Boudreaux feels the problems with the board "have a pervasive effect on all areas of an entity's operations and financial reporting."

The audit said that LPTFA trustees have not been receiving annual ethics training required by state law. In addition, the audit noted that there was no written policy to assist the trustees in setting "high ethical standards" for conducting business.

The audit continued, saying LPTFA board chairman John Arceneaux did not draft a budget for the agency, which is required by law. The audit also recommended that the LPTFA hire a staff to oversee internal control of the agency's accounting practices.

"The Lafayette City-Parish Council has dealt with this issue in the past and the end result was the removal of the entire board," Boudreax wrote, alluding to the removal of the Lafayette Housing Authority board in 2010.

The resolution, if passed, would result in the dissolution of the current board and begin the process of finding new board members.

The LCG council will meet Aug. 6 at 5:30 p.m. in the LCG Council auditorium, 705 W. Univerity Ave.
