New Iberia Sewer Smoke Testing

As part of the City of New Iberia's Sewer Improvements, the City will conduct smoke testing of the Sanitary sewer system to locate any defects in sewer pipes. Testing will take place on Tuesday, August 6 and Wednesday, August 7, weather permitting. The following streets will be tested:

1200/1300/1400 blocks of South Corrine St.
300/500 blocks St. Mary St.
1200/1400/1500 blocks of Eden St.
1500 block of Rogers
400/500 blocks of St. John St.
300/400 blocks of Rouly St.
1500 block of St. Joseph St.

Any smoke that residents may see coming from vents, manholes or holes in the ground is NON TOXIC and creates NO FIRE HAZARD. Smoke should not enter homes. If smoke does enter a home, the resident should open doors and windows to ventilate the house, and leave the premises until the smoke dissipates. Smoke entering a home usually indicates a leak in the household plumbing, However, dry sewer traps may allow smoke to enter through drains. To eliminate this problem, residents should run water into all drains regularly to prevent traps from drying out.
