Clinton given a deadline to answer curfew lawsuit

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A federal judge has ruled that the town of Clinton must file a response by Thursday to resident Tommy Mead's federal court suit against its 2-month-old 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew. Chief U.S. District Judge Brian A. Jackson also told attorneys for both sides on Monday to appear in his courtroom Aug. 5. At that time, the judge said, a hearing will be held on Mead's request for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction to block enforcement of the curfew while the case proceeds to decision.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Louisiana filed the suit on behalf of Mead. It says Mead is often out at night and needs to know that he can come and go without risk of arrest.
