No special Lafayette school board meeting planned

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Board President Shelton Cobb says there are no current plans to have a special Lafayette Parish School Board meeting this week to discuss the pending investigation into Superintendent Pat Cooper.

The Advertiser reports the board voted 5-4 at its July 17 meeting to hire a Gretna law firm to investigate unspecified complaints against Cooper. The resolution authorizing the investigation did not provide details as to its scope, or how much it might cost.

Because the board is not scheduled to meet again until Aug. 7, there was some thought that the board might hold a special meeting specifically to lay out more details about the investigation.

The Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and Lafayette Parish Public Education Stakeholders Council have issued statements calling for an end to the investigation.
