The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office recently received a visit from representatives of Safariland and Barney's Police Supplies, who provided two of its deputies with new body armor.
In January 2012, Jason Javier and Mathew Strickland were involved in a shooting that claimed the life of a Chitimacha Police officer and left the deputies in critical condition. Both deputies made the decision to remain in law enforcement and have since returned to their duties in the patrol division.
Safariland is the maker of the body armor worn by the deputies at the time of the shooting. Company representative Erik Belsom presented Javier and Strickland with the new vests.
The new vests were fitted for the deputies by Barney's Police Supplies, the local supplier of body armor to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office.
