BATON ROUGE, La. - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) today advised drivers of upcoming work schedules for interstate and major road projects throughout Louisiana on Independence Day (Wednesday, July 4).
DOTD Secretary Sherri H. LeBas urged drivers to use extra caution when traveling on the roadways during the upcoming holiday, especially at railroad crossings and within construction zones where the speed limit is reduced.
Below is the regional listing of work schedules and road closures for interstate construction and major road projects.
Southeast Louisiana
In the New Orleans area, all lanes of I-10, I-310, I-510 and I-610 will remain open to traffic.
In the Slidell area, the right lane of I-12 westbound will be closed between the I-10/ I-12/ I-59 interchange and the Robert Road overpass. The detour is I-10 to U.S. 190 (Gause Boulevard), east on U.S. 190 to La. 434 (Lacombe) and north on La. 434 to I-12.
In the Hammond area, all lanes of I-12 and I-55 will remain open to traffic.
In East Baton Rouge Parish, all lanes of I-10, I-12 and I-110 will remain open.
Southwest Louisiana
In the Lafayette area, all lanes of I-10 and I-49 will remain open to traffic.
In St. Mary Parish, it is important to note that truck traffic greater than 15-25 tons is prohibited from traveling on the U.S. 90 Bayou Ramos Bridge in Morgan City. The detour for trucks traveling westbound is U.S. 90 to La. 662 (Exit 182) to La. 182 to U.S. 90. The detour for trucks traveling eastbound is U.S. 90 to La. 182 (La. 182/ La. 70 exit) to La. 662 to U.S. 90.
In Vermilion Parish, La. 92 will be closed at the Vermilion/Acadia parish line.
In the Lake Charles area, all lanes of I-10 and I-210 will remain open to traffic.
Central Louisiana
In Winn Parish, U.S. 167 will detour just north of Winnfield for construction of the Dugdemona Bridge. Both northbound and southbound traffic will shift onto the two existing northbound lanes, requiring traffic to be reduced to one lane in each direction. Please pay attention to the posted speed reduction.
Also in Winn Parish, there will be construction crews working on LA 34 from the intersection of U.S. 84 in Joyce and proceeding north for seven miles. Drivers may experience minor delays because of construction activity in this area.
Northeast Louisiana
In the Monroe area, all lanes of I-20 will remain open to traffic and there will be no lane closures on major routes in the area.
Northwest Louisiana
In the Shreveport-Bossier City area, all lanes of I-20, I-220 and I-49 will remain open to traffic.
Oversize/overweight vehicle movement
Secretary LeBas announced that all oversize and overweight vehicle movement on all state highways will be prohibited on Wednesday, July 4.
LeBas said the decision was made in conjunction with the Louisiana Department of Public Safety, Office of State Police to provide maximum safety for motorists traveling on state highways during the holiday. The Department's Truck Permit Office will also be closed on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 in observation of Independence Day.
LA Swift Bus Service
LA Swift, the bus service that provides coach bus rides between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, will run its Saturday schedule on Wednesday, July 4.

The bus service makes stops in Baton Rouge, Gonzales, Sorrento, LaPlace, Kenner and New Orleans.
