Tuesday evening was supposed to be a night where the Meaux family comfortable watching TV, but that all changed when a pick up truck smashed through the side of their trailer.
"It sounded like thunder or lightning had hit the trailer," John Meaux said.
An intoxicated driver had struck a pick up truck from behind. The collision sent the truck through a median and across southbound Highway 167. The truck then flipped in the Meaux's front yard and landed backward in Summer Meaux's room.
"I was just shocked. I couldn't talk when I saw the truck in my room," Summer Meaux said.
Unfortunately, the damage from the struck was so bad that the family was told they couldn't go back inside. Parts of the trailer are in danger of collapsing.
"If we walk in there and we walk too far, that whole part of the house is going to fall," Shauna Meaux said.
But the problems for the family doesn't stop there. The trailer home was too old to be insured. They said they were already basically on a fixed income but this accident has left them homeless.
"The Red Cross put us up for the night, but because they aren't used to this kind of situation, they don't know what else to do. We can't go back to the house and now we're just like what can we do from here," Shauna Meaux said.
