BATON ROUGE - The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality will host a Sewage Sludge Use and Disposal workshop presented by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 6, on Wednesday, September 5, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The workshop will be held at DEQ Headquarters, Galvez Building, Oliver Pollock Room, 602 North 5th Street in Baton Rouge.
The workshop will include an overview of the Standards for the Use or Disposal of Sewage Sludge and the regulations, compliance, inspection and reporting requirements as outlined in the federal regulations. The DEQ Biosolids Program will be discussed as well as permitting issues related to the Clean Water Act, including an overview of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System and Louisiana Pollution Elimination System (LPDES) permit application requirements.
"This workshop is designed as a resource for facility owners and operators to receive information on current changes to sewage sludge use and disposal regulations, as well as serving as a refresher on state permitting requirements," said Mitch Mitchell, DEQ Administrator of DEQ's Water Permits Division. "As part of DEQ's Enviroschool program, workshops such as these also provide facility owners and technicians the unique opportunity to network and ask questions in an open forum."
Facility owners and operators that are subject to the requirements of the federal Standards for the Use of Disposal of Sewage Sludge are encouraged to attend. Wastewater treatment operator continuing education credits will be awarded to qualifying participants.
