A registered sex offender was arrested on one count of alleged aggravated rape and one count of alleged simple rape.
The arrest was a result of an investigation that started with one of the victims calling 911 and reporting the crime. The investigation revealed that Jared P. Pontiff, 29, had allegedly committed the crimes on two children under 13 years old. The investigation also revealed that this crime had allegedly occurred over the past few months and consisted of several instances. The victims mother failed to contact police to report the crime and was arrested on the charge of accessory after the fact.
Pontiff is currently being held in the Jefferson Davis Parish Jail on a $500,000 bond set by District Judge Steve Gunnell and the mother's bond was set at $10,000 by City Judge Daniel Stretcher. She has since posted bond and was released. OCS was notified and the children were relocated from their home.
