State Police Support to Assumption Parish Continues With Emergency Escort of Drilling Equipment

Louisiana State Police continues to support public safety efforts in the Bayou Corne/Grand Bayou areas as it relates to the sink hole and the evacuation area.

Tomorrow morning, Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop I will escort 25 oversized loads from Bosco in Acadia Parish to the site of the sink hole in Assumption Parish. The escorted loads contain drilling equipment needed for the exploratory well.

The escort is scheduled to begin at 7:00 a.m., and is expected to make its way from the community of Bosco to Interstate 10 eastbound. The escort is expected to exit at LA Highway 1 (the Plaquemine Exit) and travel to Pierre Part. The exact route will be finalized in the morning and the public will be immediately notified.

Troopers do anticipate traffic delays along I-10 from the Lafayette area to the Mississippi River Bridge in Baton Rouge while the escort is in transit.

Troopers will alert motorists through the LSP Facebook page, Highway Message Boards and Nixle once the exact route is finalized. Anyone wishing to receive Nixle alerts or wanting to view the LSP Facebook page can log onto www.LSP.org and click the Nixle icon or Facebook icon on the right side of the page.

Work at the site of the sink hole continues. Troopers assigned to Troop C remain at the unified command site in support of the local officials. Troopers are also assisting with patrols of the evacuated area. Louisiana State Police Air Support continues to conduct flyovers of the affected area so that officials can conduct their assessments. State Police Emergency Services/ Haz-Mat continue to conduct site assessments and provide support as needed. Efforts are being coordinated on site from the Louisiana State Police Mobile Command Post.

Louisiana State Police will continue working with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the Assumption Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness, Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, Governors Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, and the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office to support any efforts they need.
