The risk of showers and thunderstorms will continue for Acadiana through Friday night as a frontal trough slowly works its way southward into the region this weekend. This trough should help to usher in drier and more stable air into the region helping to decrease our rain chances through Sunday.
In the short term, some storms into Friday evening/overnight could be quite robust producing gusty winds, frequent lightning and torrential downpours. Some storms may have a slight severe weather element with down-burst winds possible.
Any relief this weekend from the typical high summer humidity however will be short-lived as support for the trough diminishes. But there could be a decrease in our dew points especially for Saturday night into Sunday morning.
Slight chances of scattered showers and storms may persist early Saturday especially along the coast but rain chances for most of Acadiana should decrease to 20% or less through Sunday.
There will be little change in our temperatures this weekend other than the chance of seeing lows in the lower 70s by Sunday morning.
A resumption of our typical summer weather should return next week along with the usual hot and humid conditions punctuated by the risk of scattered mainly afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
In the tropics, the remnants of Ernesto continue to produce torrential downpours across Mexico with a chance of this system re-developing in the Pacific this weekend...if so the system would get a new depression and/or tropical storm name.
TD #7 east of the Windward Islands was less organized on satellite imagery Friday afternoon but is still expected to become the next tropical storm...if so the name "Gordon" will be used. This system is expected to remain a tropical storm, if upgraded, and should remain a Caribbean system perhaps threatening Central America and/or Mexico mid-late next week.
Another disturbance that is near the Cape Verde Islands in the far eastern Atlantic has potential for development, however this system is expected to remain an Atlantic system if it does indeed develop.
