The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals says a second test of the Lawtell water system shows that the water meets EPA standards and is safe to drink.
Jake Causey, DHH's chief engineer, says despite a presentation at last Thursday's town hall meeting showing that the town's water was potable following last week's train derailment, residents were still concerned that chemicals seeped into the water system.
Causey says DHH officials went back to Lawtell last Friday and collected water samples from the water supply main and from points upstream and downstream from the derailment. Causey says the results from those samples, which came back this morning, show that no chemicals entered the stream.
