Mandeville has renewed for 30 years its contract with Cleco to provide electric power to the city.
An ordinance to grant the energy company the franchise was approved by the City Council last week by a 5-0 vote.
Before moving to renew with Cleco, Mayor Donald Villere said the city talked with Washington-St. Tammany Electric Co-Op. But that company bowed out of the running because it was not in position to take over the distribution lines in the city.
City officials say they were pleased with the service provided by Cleco, in particular the company's response after Hurricane Isaac last year. City officials said the renewal essentially keeps in place the existing franchise agreement with Mandeville and will not change what customers pay for electricity.
