Officials say the Lafayette Parish School System will need millions of dollars over the next few years if schools are to improve.
Besides using reserve funds, the only option is for the district to ask for more money from taxpayers, either in the form of higher sales taxes, higher property taxes or a combination of both.
The Community Education Plan Committee is expected to make a recommendation by the end of the year to the Lafayette Parish School Board. The board would need to agree to send any possible tax increases to Lafayette Parish voters for approval.
