An Acadia Parish judge clarified his sentencing for a Crowley man today, who pled guilty to vehicular homicide.
Today is exactly two years since that drunk driving accident when 36-year-old Tyson Dupuis hit a car belonging to 19-year-old Mitchell Romero. She died in the hospital two days later.
Since then Dupuis has been sentenced to five years of jail time. Judge Ed Rubin made it clear today that the five years Tyson Dupuis will serve will actually be five years of hard labor in prison, and not the Acadia Parish jail.
It was also clarified that because this is a crime of violence, Dupuis must serve 85 percent of his sentence. Dupuis has to be in jail for at least, a little over four years before any consideration of being released early.
However, the family of the victim feels that Dupuis' five year sentence is not enough for justice to be served.
"Without her, our life is done, we're dying from the inside out. He took something so precious from us that he'll never bring back," Paula Romero, the mother of Mitchell Romero, said.
