The man who was shot by a police officer after allegedly robbing three Dollar General stores in Lafayette Parish last Sunday has a criminal record dating back over 20 years.
According to state probation and parole officials, 48-year-old Jerome Turner was convicted in 1992 of three counts of armed robbery in Orleans Parish. One year later, he was convicted of attempted armed robbery in East Baton Rouge Parish.
Officials say Turner is still under supervision for those charges.
In June 23, Turner was arrested by Lafayette Parish sheriff's deputies on a charge of masking in public. Officials said that Turner was spotted driving a rental car through a neighborhood near Duson while wearing a ski mask.
Deputies say Turner is out of intensive care at a local hospital, but his current condition has not been disclosed. Charges against Turner have not yet been filed.
