NYC library selling 22,000 vinyl LPs for $1 each

NEW YORK (AP) - Vinyl record collectors are flocking to New York City's Lincoln Center for a sale of albums that were donated to the New York Public Library.

The library is selling 22,000 records that are duplicates of others in its collection.

The three-day sale started Thursday at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.

Shoppers swarmed over boxes of LPs on Friday. Most are classical recordings, but jazz, show tunes and other genres are represented. All the records are $1, even boxed sets.

Eli Zimmerman said he bought 30 to 40 records Thursday and would buy a similar number Friday. He says he has "a record addiction."

Curator Jonathan Hiam says proceeds from the sale will go toward preserving the library's collection as well as new acquisitions.
