ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - Sentencing is set for Oct. 30 for a prisoner who was found guilty of possessing drugs in the federal penitentiary at Pollock.
The U.S. Attorney's Office tells The Town Talk 41-year-old Elbert Carlton was found guilty Tuesday after a jury trial in federal court in Alexandria.
During the trial, witnesses and evidence showed that Carlton had a visit on Feb. 20, 2010, from Whitney C. Anderson. During the visit, Carlton was seen taking something out of the pocket of a child sitting on his lap and swallowing it.
Anderson pleaded guilty to providing contraband to a prisoner on July 15 and faces up to five years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release. Her sentencing is set for Oct. 28.
Carlton faces the same sentence.
