Hazy conditions developed across Acadiana Wednesday and the main culprit is likely African Dust.
For the last couple of weeks dust coming off of the African coast has been spreading westward across the northern hemisphere eaching the Caribbean last week.
The dust, also responsible for keeping tropical activity in the Atlantic at bay, moved toward Mexico and through Texas this week and has been captured by the dominant ridge of high pressure that has been situated over Texas and Louisiana for the last week.
The dust, combined with the very hot and stagnent weather pattern has led to poor air quality especially across southeast Texas Wednesday.
The haze/dust will likely stay in the region Thursday, but a surge of tropical moisture Friday into the weekend will bring better rain chances and the opportunity for nature to "scrub" the atmosphere.
In the near term, in addition to hazy conditions expect deeper orange and reds in the sky for sunsets (and maybe sunrises) through Thursday.
