About 50 remaining families who evacuated after a train derailed on Sunday, are one step closer to going home. State officials announced all the Vinyl Chloride in two derailed cars has been removed.
Starting tomorrow at 8 am, residents can go back to their homes. This also includes four businesses in the quarter-mile evacuation zone.
While many are anxious to return to "Home sweet home" there are new concerns at their door steps.
"We're very excited about the idea of being able to go home, just concerned about the air quality," Margaret White said, who evacuated from her home Sunday afternoon.
"It's hot and we all have to put our air on, and the air conditioning brings in everything. I just hope that the air quality is pure enough for us so we don't have any problems," White said.
State Troopers and the Department of Environmental Quality says their addressing those concerns by escorting residents back home.
"D.E.Q. is going to go with them to their homes, they're going to monitor the air, they're going to show them that the readings are normal," Louisiana State Police Col. Mike Edmonson said.
"We share the public's concern that the air is safe, the water is safe and we're going to be here throughout this process, ensuring that is indeed the case," Paul Miller from the Department of Environmental Quality said.
In the meantime Margaret White is packing and preparing and hoping that things at home will be safe.
"I'm just hoping that everybody is happy and satisfied as I am, you know about going home and having the situation being taken care of and dealt with as it comes along," White said.
