The Jefferson Parish School Board has approved a new operator, Celerity Education Group, to charter an existing public school in the 2014-15 school year. Also on Tuesday, the board approved with little dispute a fairly balanced budget for the 2013-14 fiscal year.
The school board voted to approve Celerity to charter an existing public school in the system, making it a Type 3 charter operator. The administration has said it has not yet determined what school Celerity will take over, though Jefferson schools Superintendent James Meza did note that the district has had one traditional school ranked as failing this year, Woodmere Elementary in Harvey.
School board approved a $423 million budget for the 2013-14 school year.
