Thibodaux residents won't be seeing their taxes go up in the next year, but city services are going to be reviewed because of budget issues.
The Thibodaux City Council on Tuesday rejected a measure to roll forward the city's property tax rate. The city hasn't rolled forward the rate since 2004.
The city collects 14 mills, and the increase would have been just 0.16 mills. A mill is $1 in tax levied on every $1,000 of taxable property.
On a $100,000 house, the increase would have been $1.60. The city collects $474,000 from the property tax.
Mayor Tommy Eschete estimated the increase would have brought in about $15,000. Though the increase would have been minimal, Eschete said with looming budget issues, every penny counts.
