The Lafayette City-Parish Council voted Tuesday night to settle its long-running battle over water bills with the city of Broussard.
After going into executive session, the council voted unanimously to authorize City-Parish President Joey Durel to negotiate a deal between the municipality and the utility.
The approved ordinance would give Broussard $275,587.01 in change from the $825,000 it paid to Lafayette Utilities in 2011 for water the utility said was not paid for over a 10-year period.
It would also shorten the length of the existing agreement between the two municipalities to 7 years instead of the existing 25-year deal.
