NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Louisiana's state epidemiologist says the state has had only two known cases of the rare stomach bug called cyclospora - a parasite that has sickened hundreds of people in at least 15 states.
Dr. Raoult Ratard says both are men who became ill in early July, in Bienville and Terrebonne parishes.
In Nebraska and Iowa, the parasite has been traced to prepackaged salad. Officials haven't named the packager but have said the mix is probably off the shelves because it would have gone bad by now.
Ratard says the Terrebonne Parish man told investigators he ate salad during a trip to Texas, and the other said he hadn't eaten any.
Texas officials say they've had 122 reports of cyclospora, but don't have a link to salad mix.
