A motorcyclist died in a crash at the intersection of LA Hwy 89 and La Neuville Road in Broussard Wednesday night.
According to Broussard Police, on July 31, 2013, at 9:54 pm Melissa Pellerin, 49, of Youngsville, was traveling northbound on LA Hwy 89 in a Chevrolet Malibu. Pellerin proceeded to turn left onto La Neuville Road, on a solid green light when she struck a motorcycle driven by Roy Cooper, 71, which was traveling southbound on LA Hwy 89.
According to police, Pellerin did not see the motorcycle.
Cooper, who was wearing a helmet, was transported to a local hospital initially with critical injuries and later died as a result of his injuries.
Pellerin was not injured and was wearing her seatbelt.
Pellerin was cited for failing to yield to oncoming traffic when turning left at an intersection.
Routine toxicology samples were obtained and have been submitted for analysis.
