Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at a 12:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for Willis J. Dore', 88, who died on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at his residence in Lafayette.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette.
Reverend Brian Taylor, Pastor of St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Lafayette, Louisiana will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Becky Richard and Rodney Hebert. Giftbearers will be Amber Dore' and Gabrielle Hebert. Eulogist will be Glenn Weber. Karen Broussard will sing "Ave Maria", "How Great Thou Art", "The Battle Hymn of the Republic", and "Just a Closer Walk with Thee" for the services.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Viola LeBlanc Dore' of Lafayette; one son, Wayne R. Dore' and his wife Lisa Romero Dore'; one daughter, Gale Dore'; three grandchildren, Amber Dore', Jeremy Dore', and Clint Hebert; and two great grandchildren, Gabrielle and Brennen Hebert.
Mr. Dore' was preceded in death by his parents, Lezin and Mary Medora Guidry Dore' from St. Martin Parish; one sister, Felonaise Dore' Breaux; five brothers, LeRoy Dozete', Henry Dore', Wade Dore', and Ovey Dore'; and one grandson, Matthew J. Hebert.
Mr. Dore' was a veteran of World War II where he served in the United States Army. He was the recipient of two Bronze Stars, Asiatic Pacific, Presidential Unit Citation, Philippine Liberation Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Victory of Japan Medal, American Occupation Over Japan Medal, and Good Conduct Medals.
Prior to his retirement as a Safety Supervisor on August 31, 1989, Mr. Dore' was employed by the City of Lafayette for thirty years. He was a member of the St. Genevieve Catholic Community and a member of the V.F.W. Post #9822. Willis J. Dore' was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to all who knew him and will be dearly missed.
Pallbearers will be Clint Hebert, Jeremy Dore', David Martin, Mike Dore', Mike Martin, Clark LeBlanc, Mark LeBlanc, and Jenn Miller.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Don Breaux, Glenn Weber, Brennen Hebert, and Dud LaStrapes.
The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location on Friday, August 2, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM and on Saturday, from 8:00 AM until time of service.
A rosary will be recited on Friday at 7:00 PM at Martin & Castille Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions can be made in Willis' name to Heart of Hospice.
