MONTEGUT, La. (AP) - Work is moving forward to repair a marsh management levee in Montegut that will eventually become part of Terrebonne's Morganza-to-the-Gulf levee system.
The levee was severely damaged during last year's Hurricane Isaac.
Terrebonne Levee Director Reggie Dupre said that the first phase of the project, which will completely replace a water-control structure that was damaged during hurricanes Gustav and Ike in 2008, is substantially complete as of this week.
The first phase involved installing a sheet pile dam to help close the system. The second phase will be installing a water-control structure outfitted with a bridge that will allow vehicle traffic to cross the levee.
The first phase of the project cost about $1.3 million and the second phase will cost nearly $3 million.
