The town of Duson has nearly drained its general fund, depleting it by $500,000 since 2008. As of December 31, 2012, it only had $56,000 left, which isn't even enough to cover a month of expenses.
According to the independent audit released earlier this week, it overspent in almost all areas in 2012, most noticeably in its utility funds. Its expenses were almost double its revenues, something that has been a known issue since 2004.
According to the audit, it takes approximately $105,000 a month to keep Duson operating.
When KATC tried several times to talk about the audit with Duson Mayor Johnnie Thibodeaux, he was not available for comment.
