BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The Louisiana Legislature will pay at least $40,000 over the next few weeks for 19 lawmakers to travel to different conferences and gather with colleagues from other states.
First up is the Southern Legislative Conference in Mobile, Ala., which started Saturday and ends Wednesday. Next is the American Legislative Exchange Council on Aug. 7-9 in Boston, followed by the National Conference of State Legislatures meeting on Aug. 12-15 in Atlanta.
The Advocate reports that conference registration, travel and hotel costs for the legislators will total about $28,000, according to information provided by the state House and Senate.
On top of that, lawmakers get $149 a day, a per diem they receive for expenses while in legislative session, at interim committee meetings or on other business related to their work.
