Lots going on near well that caught fire last week

Federal regulators say gas detectors and automatic, high-capacity water hoses are being installed on a drilling rig where a natural gas well caught fire last week.

The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement says another jack-up rig is being readied to drill a relief well to permanently plug the well owned by Walter Oil & Gas Corp. And a barge has arrived for response teams to use.

The bureau's statement Sunday says fireboats remain nearby, as do vessels carrying regulators and people from Walter and rig owner Hercules Offshore Inc.

The bureau says it has approved Walter Oil's permit for a relief well.

There's still a slight sheen on the water. The bureau says it is dissipating quickly.

The rig blew wild Tuesday morning and caught fire that night.
