It's enough to turn anyone's stomach--a rat in a restaurant. A few days ago, a KATC viewer posted a video on Facebook. In the video you can see a rat climbing on the table and windows. The person posting the video says this is in a Popeye's restaurant in New Iberia.
The video went online Wednesday and it now has over 300 shares on Facebook. The person posting the video says it's at the Popeyes on Main street in New Iberia. Department of Health and Hospitals received a complaint about a rat video, but for a different New Iberia Popeye's on East St. Peter. Officials went there and did a thorough inspection Thursday.
After some conflicting reports -- DHH Inspectors also went to the Main Street location today -- looking for any signs of the rat.
Despite the confusion over which store the video was taken, DHH says the bottom line is there are no signs of rats or any rodents for that matter at either store.
We talked to both managers and the Popeye's regional manager who were shocked that a rat was caught on tape. They say the stores are clean and follow health codes. Both managers say for all they know, someone could have brought the rat in on purpose, as a prank.
KATC also reached out to the people posting the video on Facebook, but we did not receive a response.
While DHH inspectors did not find any signs of rats, they did cite some violations at the Popeye's on East St. Peter Street, including fruit flies under a cash register and sugar ants in a dry storage room.
