Petanque (Pa-tonk) is a funny French name for a fun game.

Petanque is a bowling game traditionally played in town parks and squares in France on hard packed surfaces. The games is played by rolling metal balls on the ground, seeking to displace other player's
balls (boules in French).

A group of local club of petanque enthusiasts, La Boule Cadienne de Lafayette, sponsors a regularly scheduled games in Girard Park on the fourth Sunday of each month from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The game is
played on the north end of the park near the UL Lafayette Alumni House on Girard Park Lane on specially built Petanque courts.

All are invited to play. The game equalizes competition between men and women, young and old, as well as old and spry with young and uncoordinated.

The game is also an excellent way to be exposed to the French language.

All equipment for the game is provided by the club to those wishing to participate.

The 2012 petanque gatherings are scheduled on June 24, July 22, August 26, September 23, October 28, November 25, and December 23.

Each March, an international tournament is scheduled with players from France and Belgium as well as from throughout the United States.
