The annual Mike Open, postponed

The annual "Mike Open," Acadiana's largest golf tournament in participation numbers, has been postponed from its scheduled Monday and Tuesday dates due to heavy rains and flooded conditions at Les Vieux Chenes Golf Course.

The tournament, hosted annually by district attorney Mike Harson as a major fundraiser for local charities and youth groups in the three-parish area served by Harson's office, is rescheduled for Monday-Tuesday, Aug. 6-7, at Les Vieux Chenes.

The tournament annually draws over 550 players, with both morning and afternoon tee times each day. Tournament coordinator Ken Franques said that all entries for both Monday and Tuesday will remain in place on the new playing dates.

"All the entries and pairings will still be used," Franques said. "It's just different dates."

The tournament is in its 17th year and Franques said the event has never been weather delayed in its first 16 years. "We've never had to move before," he said. "That's pretty amazing ... we've been lucky up until now. But there's just too much water out here, there's a lot of flooded fairways.

Players and teams who have a conflict with the new dates may contact Franques at 207-4288 or at kfranq@cox.net to arrange for a refund. Players and teams who were not entered this Monday and Tuesday but who are interested in playing one of the new dates may also contact Franques for playing spots.
