The St. Landry Parish School Board Thursday night approved a $101.8 million dollar budget for the 2012-2013 fiscal year. According to board member and finance committee chairman Raymond Cassimere, this leaves the board with a $600,000 surplus for the year. In addition, the board approved declaring a state of financial exigency. This emergency declaration gives the board some flexibility in how to make budget cuts and handle expenses. Cassimere also says the school board voted to back out of a building contract for the Child Nutrition Office Building. Cassimere says this will save the school board $100,000 annually.
