"I see horrible stuff everyday, but that's nothing compared to when its your child."
Late Sunday night Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Deputy Shawn LaValley was at work and his family preparing to go to bed.
"I was watching TV and I heard a gurgle."
Eight-year-old Kaleb went to check on his 19-month-old sister Khloe and noticed something wasn't right.
"I realized that her eyes were rolled back and her feet started shaking."
So Kaleb acted fast.
"I just got scared and ran to the bathroom and got my grandma and ran into my momma's room and i was crying, momma go to Khloe's room."
Khloe was rushed to the hospital, where doctors say if it wasn't for the family's immediate action, she could have died. Kaleb's family credits his quick thinking for saving his sister's life.
"I don't understand how he heard her because we really couldn't hear her until we were right up on her, so it's really fortunate that we did hear her," says his mother Devin.
"Kaleb did a great thing and he's been treated like a king around here ever since."
