A man is dead after he was put in custody due to allegedly disturbing hotel guest in his underwear.
On October 18, 2012, at 11:20 am, Lafayette Police responded to a hotel located at 1441 SE Evangeline Thruway regarding a disturbance. Police say, the hotel's on-duty security guard was alerted to a man only dressed in his underwear allegedly harassing patrons and employees on the 3rd floor. The suspect was confronted by the security guard and a short struggle took place. According to authorities, the suspect was handcuffed and escorted down to the lobby of the business.
Police say, once in the lobby, the suspect attempted to move towards an employee, at which time the suspect was taken to the ground by the security guard. When Lafayette Police arrived the suspect was having difficulty breathing and an ambulance arrived a short time later, according to police. The suspect was transported to an area hospital and later pronounced dead.
The suspect is a 48-year-old man of Lafayette. An autopsy will be conducted by the Lafayette Parish Coroners officer to determine an exact cause of death. There were no other injuries as a result of the incident, according to authorites. The case remains under investigation.
