Man pleads guilty to 8 fishing, oyster violations

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says a 25-year-old Houma man arrested for alleged oyster and boating violations has pleaded guilty to 18 earlier charges.

Wildlife and Fisheries' Enforcement Division spokesman Adam Einck says Danny T. Billiot Jr. was sentenced to six months in jail and 18 months of probation.

He says agents boarded Billiot's boat on Oct. 11 and cited him for allegedly oystering without a license, life vest or fire extinguisher on board, and using a vessel without proper boat numbers. Then they learned he had eight outstanding warrants in Terrebonne Parish.

Billiott was booked into the Terrebonne Parish Jail and pleaded guilty Oct. 12 to charges dating from April 2007 until August 2012. They included some on which he was booked again Oct. 11.
