BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Civil Service Director Shannon Templet is reminding rank-and-file Louisiana state employees of prohibited election activity as the Nov. 6 elections approach.
The Advocate reports that those "classified" workers can't publicly oppose or support a political candidate or political party.
Templet says they cannot display political signs in their yards, put political bumper stickers on their vehicles or wear buttons that could be perceived as supporting a person or party. She says they also can't "like" a candidate or party on Facebook or follow them on Twitter or other social media.
So, what can a classified employee do related to elections?
Templet says they can vote, be a commissioner or poll watcher, sign a recall petition and publicly support or oppose a tax election, bond issue or constitutional amendments.
