FEMA extends sheltering program for 2 weeks

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Louisiana residents displaced by Hurricane Isaac are getting an extra two weeks to stay in hotels and motels on the government's dime.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced Friday that it has approved a third extension to its Transitional Sheltering Assistance program, which allows for FEMA to directly pay for rooms occupied by Isaac victims.

The program was due to expire on Oct. 15 but now runs through Oct. 28.

FEMA approved the extension at the state's request.

The agency doesn't cover the cost of meals, telephone calls or other incidental charges.
