Lafayette Parish schools were granted $30 million dollars in bond money to improve six schools within the parish.
"It's our chance to show the public what we can do with dollars available for construction and renovation"
When the item came up for discussion, some board member had issue with how much time was spent putting together the plan. They decided to hold off on the vote to allow for more time to talk out what would happen to this $30 million dollars.
"This is not our 30 million dollars. This is the publics 30 million dollars we're spending." School Board Member Kermit Bouillion said, "So why not get the public input."
We need to debate it. The issue I'm sure will be heated. That was the reason for the master plan to alleviate that," School Board Member Rae Trahan said.
Superintendent Dr. Pat Cooper says the board will take up the issue at their next meeting. He's hoping, the money and the plans will be finalized.
"We'll end up doing what's best for the community. So another week or two is not going to make a difference for most of these projects."
