The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced today that beginning Thursday, September 20, the signalized intersections of U.S. 90 at Morgan Street and U.S. 90 at Kaliste Saloom, in Lafayette Parish, will be upgraded as crews work to install J-turns along U.S. 90.
Once the new signals are activated, traffic from Morgan Street traveling westbound and eastbound will be required to turn right onto U.S. 90 (Evangeline Thruway) and then U-turn at a median opening down the road. This movement change will be permanent.
Additionally, the traffic signal at the intersection of U.S. 90 and Kaliste Saloom will be upgraded that same day. Traffic movement for vehicles traveling on Kaliste Saloom towards U.S. 90 will not change.
As part of the U.S. 90 widening project, from Pinhook to Broussard, safety measures known as J-turns are being constructed along U.S. 90 between Pinhook Road and Albertson's Parkway. The J-turn design will safely and efficiently manage traffic and eliminate left-turn and through movements from side roads and driveways. J-turns reduce the risk of crashes, specifically the risk of severe crashes such as side-collisions or T-bone type accidents.
