OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) - August was another good month for St. Landry Parish sales tax collections.
Overall sales tax collections are up for 20 straight months.
According to figures released by the St. Landry Parish School Board, which tracks the parish's sale tax numbers, the August collections totaled $4.6 million, a jump of 8 percent from the same month last year.
Officials say Opelousas by itself brings in as much in sales tax as the parish's nine other sales tax communities combined. Palmetto and Leonville do not collect a sale tax.
For August, Opelousas' numbers were up 7.5 percent.
