SLCC RECEIVES NATIONAL RECOGNITION FOR CERTIFICATION EXAM
92% pass rate on Certified Surgical Technologist exam
LAFAYETTE - South Louisiana Community College received a Merit Award from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting for achieving a 92% graduate pass rate on the Certified Surgical Technologist examination.
Schools must earn at least a 90% pass rate to be eligible for the award. The award cycle was from Aug. 1, 2011, through July 31, 2012.
"I am very proud of the accomplishments of our Surgical Technology graduates and want to thank faculty members, Lorie Lavergne and Amy Broussard, for a job well done," said Laurie Fontenot, SLCC dean of health and safety programs.
Graduates obtaining national certification as a CST demonstrate by examination understanding of the basic competencies for safe patient care in the operating room. The CST is widely recognized in the health care community as the foremost credential for surgical technologies in the nation.
The CST is required for employment within manylocal, state, and national health care organizations.
According to NBSTSA Chief Executive Officer Ron Kruzel, the NBSTSA has a 40-year history in CST examination development. The exam is the only fully accredited examination by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies for surgical technologists in the nation.
NCAA accreditation assures that the CST examination meets stringent standards of examination development and administration. Certification as a surgical technologist exhibits professional pride, the desire to be recognized for mastery of surgical competencies, and most importantly, the ongoing commitment to quality patient care.
The Surgical Technology program is offered at the Ardoin Building on SLCC's Lafayette campus. Call (337) 521- 8923 for admissions information.
