Downtown Houma to see stars this weekend

HOUMA, La. (AP) - The crew for a new movie, "The Butler," starring Oprah Winfrey, Forest Whitaker, Jane Fonda, Robin Williams and Cuba Gooding Jr., will be filming several shots of the area's historic buildings including Le Petit Theatre and around the courthouse.

The Courier reports (http://bit.ly/PF8KVu ) Winfrey and Whitaker will be in Houma to do a scene Friday in front of the theater. Karen Schilling, president of the theater's board, says producers told her the theater's exterior is "perfect for the time period in which they're shooting."

"The Butler," directed by Lee Daniels, is based on the life of Eugene Allen, an African-American butler who worked at the White House for eight presidents beginning with Harry Truman and ending with Ronald Reagan.

Filming began last week in New Orleans.
