Former Lafayette Cop Charged with Malfeasance

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - A former Lafayette Police Department officer is in trouble with the law after being accused of falsifying an accident report.

Kencil Joseph of Opelousas was charged with malfeasance in office and injuring public records. He posted a $1,000 bond and was released.

Joseph pleaded not guilty to the charges during his arraignment Tuesday. He is scheduled to appear for a pretrial hearing Nov. 15.

Dee Stanley, Lafayette Consolidated Government's chief administrative officer, said Joseph began working for the police department on April 7, 2008, and he was terminated May 18, 2012.

According to the bill of information, Joseph allegedly falsified an accident report Feb. 21. Officials would not elaborate on what that report may have been or what information Joseph may have falsified.
