NEW IBERIA, La. (AP) - State District Judge Edward Leonard has sentenced Anthony Daye to life in prison without parole.
The Advertiser reports Daye was sentenced Monday as a habitual offender.
Daye was convicted by an Iberia Parish jury in May of possession of marijuana and transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses.
After that conviction, the district attorney filed a bill of information charging Daye as a habitual offender. He was previously convicted of several felonies, including distribution of cocaine in 1998, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute in 1998, aggravated second-degree battery in 2003, attempted possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in 2003, and introduction of contraband to a penal institution in 2005.
