WASHINGTON, La. (AP) - State police are investigating a single vehicle fatal crash on La. Highway 363 which claimed the life of a 19-year-old Ville Platte man.
Troopers say 19-year-old Chauncey Hesnor's pickup was southbound early Friday morning when it ran off the highway, struck two cement culverts, overturned and came to rest in a ditch.
Hesnor, who was not wearing a seat belt, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
A passenger in his vehicle, 19-year-old Alex Reed of Vile Platte, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers say Reed was properly restrained when the crash occurred.
When he is released from the hospital, investigators say Hesnor will be booked with vehicular homicide, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, no seatbelt and open alcoholic container.
The crash remains under investigation.
